High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

What is high potential and gifted education?

High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with  HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom

At Yamba Public School, we recognise that high potential exists in many forms and across all learners. Our approach to high potential and gifted education is embedded in everyday teaching and learning through evidence-based practices to meet the needs of every student.

Teachers use a range of strategies including differentiated learning tasks, flexible groupings and targeted feedback to challenge and extend students. Ongoing professional learning ensures our staff continue to refine practices that support growth, engagement and achievement for all.

Across our school

At Yamba Public School, we recognise and nurture the unique talents of every student by providing diverse, and enriching opportunities that support growth across academic, creative, social, and physical domains.

Across NSW

Yamba Public School is proud to partner with Aurora College to provide remote opportunity classes for academically gifted Year 5 and Year 6 students with high potential.

These classes offer specialised teaching and learning experiences, grouping students with peers of similar ability and providing materials suited to their advanced learning needs. Parents typically apply when their child is in Year 4.

Placement in the Aurora College Opportunity Class allows students to engage in a challenging academic program while remaining connected to their local school community.
